Zanmi Lakay is also dedicated to supporting the artists of Haiti. We buy beautiful folk art directly from artists and studios in the Port-au-Prince area, the dusty town of Croix-des-Bouquet, and the coastal city of Jacmel enabling artists to continue their work while enriching others with Haitian culture. Each piece of artwork is handmade and unique. All purchases of Haitian folk art support our work with street children.

Crochet Hats
By Wilky Fleurimond, Jacmel
Wilky is a survivor of the streets. He learned to crochet while living at Lafanmi Selavi, a home for street children in Port-au-Prince. An organization offering school, rent, and business opportunities brought him to Jacmel, but the programs have since been cancelled. He hopes to stay in Jacmel where he goes to school, plays soccer, and enjoys a stable life. He has been selling his beautiful hats in Haiti and the US. All proceeds go directly to Wilky.

Recycled Metal Folk Art from Haiti
Artists begin with recycled steel drums burning out the old residue and pounding the metal flat. Chalk drawings, usually with stencils, are drawn on the metal and then with chisel tools, a pattern is cut and shaped and tapped with nails to create texture for the finished piece. The most intricate designs are usually raw metal pieces, while others are painted or tinted.
